From Soil to Craft, Growing Connections.

A fibreshed connects local fibre producers, processors, artisans, consumers and fibre-curious folk to create a sustainable and resilient fibre system. Just as a watershed supports the health of an ecosystem by circulating water locally, our Fibreshed focuses on regenerating resources like wool, flax, hemp, nettles, dogbane, willow and other natural materials within the bioregion. This circular system mirrors the cycles of nature, ensuring that fibre is grown, processed, and consumed locally, reducing environmental impact, bolstering our local economy and fostering a thriving community.

The West Kootenay Fibreshed Society champions environmentally responsible textile production by promoting soil-to-soil cycles. From raising animals or cultivating plants for fibre, to spinning, weaving, knitting etc. and eventually returning textiles to the earth, every step is designed to regenerate soils, nurture ecosystems, and empower local economies. By rooting our Fibreshed in principles of sustainability and circularity, we deepen our relationship with the land and ensure that our textiles tell the story of a community in harmony with nature.
